Anthony Olowu, Nursing
A lot of people often ask me why I came such a long way to Northern Ontario. Before coming to Laurentian, I visited the city to see if this was what I wanted for myself and upon arrival, i could see the beautiful landscapes and trails in the city. When I came to the university, I met with some professors and they were all willing to help. They genuinely care about their students and their success.

There were a lot of challenges I encountered when I arrived in Canada. Firstly, English being a second language for me I found it hard to understand others. Next was Sudbury’s cold, for a guy who used to live in +40 degrees, surviving and fighting -40 degrees cold was a huge deal but I also have come to appreciate the different climate and beauty of winter. The Laurentian University community is culturally accepting and understanding. All of this has made Laurentian and Sudbury a second home.

I chose Laurentian because it was the best of both worlds for me. I benefited from staying close to home, my family and friends while also being able to experience something new and exciting. The small classroom sizes and sense of community at Laurentian were very valuable to me coming from a small town. I also consider the conservation area to be a huge asset as I can enjoy the beach and trails between classes.
